27TH ANNUAL SALUTE TO EXCELLENCE

In November 2016, in the presence of nearly 400 guests at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center, Hollie Calderon and Debra Gentile accepted the Salute to Excellence award on behalf of JPMorgan Chase & Company, recognizing the firm’s partnership and $320,000 investment in MCC to accelerate demand-driven skills training. The grant is part of the firm’s New Skills at Work initiative, a $250 million commitment to addressing skill gaps in communities around the world. The firm’s partnership with MCC is increasing job-training opportunities and providing options for individuals to earn a college credential in less than a year in pursuit of high-demand careers in fields like advanced manufacturing and mechatronics.

During the Salute to Excellence dinner, outstanding alumni Anthony Soprano ’92, Daniele Lyman-Torres ’02, Rev. Penny Crudup ’12 and Chief James W. Harrington ’80 (pictured below left to right) were proudly inducted into the MCC Alumni  Hall of Fame. The event’s Gold and Silver Benefactors—Avangrid Foundation, Corning Incorporated, Dixon Schwabl, Cannon Industries, CMI Communications, the DiMarco Group, Konar Properties and M&T Bank—joined inductees on stage to help with inductions.

MCC alumnus and rising star Michael Gray ’12 shared how his first steps at MCC helped him achieve his dream of serving New Yorkers at city and national government levels.

Honorary Chair Matthew A. Tipple, marketing executive of JPMorgan Chase & Company, along with Committee Chair Naomi Silver, president and chief operating officer of the Rochester Red Wings, led the extraordinary celebration, raising $68,000 (net) to support student success and program excellence at MCC.
